This is crazy, yet another scam. Let's talk about AI written books.
Audiobooks, AI, and the “Too Good to Be True” Trap
how to spot the new ai scam on acx - 6:41
You might be wondering, “What channel am I even watching?” Hi, it’s Gabby! And yes, lately I’ve been talking a whole lot about audiobooks.
So, where my ACX people at? Stick around, because this is going to be a wild one.
What’s Going On With ACX?
If you’re an audiobook narrator, aspiring narrator, or even just curious about the audiobook world, you may have noticed something strange happening recently. Books are popping up that are… well, let’s just say so badly written that you can’t help but wonder:
“Was this even written by a person?”
Spoiler alert: often, they weren’t.
The AI Book “Hustle”
Here’s the deal. Two “bro-preneurs” on the internet are pushing a program where they tell people, “You don’t need any experience in writing or publishing to make money with books.”
Their big “secret”?
Use ChatGPT or another AI tool.
Tell it to write a book on literally anything: finances, accounting, horses—doesn’t matter.
Slap your name on it, self-publish it, and then push it out on Amazon and ACX for audio production.
The pitch is: “You’ll make money through royalty shares!”
But let’s get real.
Why This Doesn’t Work
The public isn’t stupid. All it takes is one person to buy the book, realize it’s total garbage, and leave a terrible review. That one review can tank the book’s future sales instantly.
Royalty share disappears. If no one is buying or listening because of bad reviews, narrators never see any of that promised revenue.
It wastes your time. As voice actors, if we accept one of these projects, we end up recording nonsense. The writing often doesn’t make sense, isn’t coherent, and definitely wasn’t meant for human ears.
And here’s the kicker: this isn’t just happening in English. It’s happening in every language, worldwide.
How to Spot the Red Flags
If the text reads like it was written by AI… it was.
If the contract terms or job description seem “off,” the person probably has no idea what they’re doing.
If it looks sketchy, it probably is.
Bottom line? Walk away.
These projects won’t make you money, won’t boost your portfolio, and will only waste your energy.
Final Thoughts
At the end of the day, if it looks like AI, walks like AI, and talks like AI—guess what? It’s AI. And it’s not worth your time.
