🔖 Personal Branding vs. Business Branding

We hear a lot of people — especially on social media — talking about personal branding. And yes, it’s important!

Your personal brand reflects:

  • Your causes

  • Your beliefs

  • Your ethics and morals

  • And everything else that makes you you

These things matter now more than ever — because everyone has a presence today. But here’s the thing:

Your business needs a brand too.

🎧 Branding in Voiceover (Especially for Beginners)

In voiceover, branding can be tough, especially if you're new. When you're just starting out, you're often looking through a very narrow lens. You don’t yet know how to:

  • Compare yourself to other voice actors

  • Analyze the competitive landscape

  • Craft messaging that sets you apart

So what happens?

You come up with something that feels clever and original, like...

✨ “The Voice of Choice!” ✨

Sorry — not going to cut it.

I’ve seen at least 300 “Voice of Choice” taglines in my years doing this. It’s a “nothing burger.” It doesn’t mean anything. It’s like empty calories — catchy but vague.


🎯 What Is Voiceover Branding?

Voiceover branding is about:

  • Clarity in what your voice sounds like

  • Painting a picture of your voice before anyone hears you

  • Helping buyers know what to expect when they work with you

And that’s hard to do! A logo with a microphone or a swirly cursive name morphing into a mic cord? Cute, but not enough.

Your brand needs to be:

  • Thoughtful

  • Intentional

  • And strategically built with the buyer in mind

To do that, you need to become a bit of a student of marketing and advertising. Study what other voice actors are doing. Analyze what’s working — and what isn’t. Cast a wide net in your research.

Your brand should be:

  • Visually appealing

  • Powerfully worded

If it’s not, it’s going to fall flat.


🛑 Do You Need a Brand Right Now?

If you’re brand new to voiceover?

Nope. You don’t need a brand yet.

Why? Because it’s too soon.Your brand will emerge over time. The longer you’re in this industry, the more you’ll notice:

  • Trends in who's hiring you

  • Where your voice is being used

  • Why people are drawn to your sound

As you gain experience, client feedback, and job bookings, all those puzzle pieces will start to click — and you’ll naturally begin to shape your brand from there.
