The Gift of Gab: Use Your Voice for Good
An opportunity to use your voice to make a difference - 4:18
Hey guys, it’s Gabby! Welcome to another edition of The Gift of Gab. Today, we’re going to talk about how to use our voices—for good.
No, literally—I mean for good. Not like, forever (although, sure, that too), but to do something positive and amazing for other people using the talent and skill you have as a voice actor.
Introducing: Volunteer Voiceover
There’s a new company I want to tell you about. I jumped on it immediately—the second I got the email invite about its existence, I was all over it.
It’s called Volunteer Voiceover, and it’s the brilliant brainchild—soul baby, really—of fellow voice actress Melissa. She started by reaching out to a handful of us to get the ball rolling.
Here’s the idea: connecting voice actors with opportunities to serve charities, nonprofits, and 501(c)(3) organizations. And let me tell you—that is amazing.
For newer voice actors, it’s a fantastic way to gain real-world experience while using your voice to do something meaningful. And yes, if you know me, you know I’m not a huge fan of doing free work...
But this? Volunteering? That’s totally different. That’s intentional. That’s aligned with your values. When you can connect with causes and organizations you personally care about? That’s powerful.
How It Works
Here’s the deal:
Go to volunteervoiceover.com and make a profile. That’s your first step—because you need to be searchable within the platform in order for charities to find and connect with you.
Yes, there’s a small monthly fee to participate. And guys—it’s tiny. Totally worth it.
And here’s the best part: nobody is making money off this. It’s a nonprofit. The fee covers basic administrative costs to keep the website running—literally, just enough to keep the lights on.
Getting Set Up
Now, I’ll be real—it’s a little bit of a process to get your profile fully set up in their system. But they’ve made it easy with a great tutorial video that walks you through everything step by step.
Even Melissa, the founder, is volunteering her own voice for these organizations. It’s just a beautiful, brilliant model—and I’m so proud of her for putting this together.
Why It Matters
This is an inventive, meaningful way to use your voice, make new connections, and give back to charities that might not otherwise be able to afford professional voiceover.
There are so many ways organizations can use us—and this opens the door to real, heartfelt service.
