The thing is, us voice actors have to use every trick in the book. And this trick is one that works.
Say it with me: One of us. One of us. One of us.
You Might Be a Voice Actor If... - 2:26
Do you like to people watch?
Me too.
Do you like to make up stories and narratives for the people you’re watching?
Yeah… me too.
Like, is that a hobby of yours?
Then you are definitely on the road to becoming a voice actor.
Say it with me: One of us. One of us. One of us.
People watching—creating voices and narrating the lives of random people you see out in the world—is absolutely something voice actors do. And we do it a lot. Anyone who tells you they don’t? They’re lying. We all do it. I promise.
It’s so much fun, and it’s actually one of the ways we practice our characters in real life, in real time.
We make up stories.
We invent narratives.
We come up with funny voices on the spot.
Sometimes we take an existing character voice, give it specific traits, and then assign those traits to random people as they go about their day. Of course, yes—we use it to make our friends and family laugh and get a giggle out of it. But it’s also a fantastic form of practice.
So yes, this is something you should be incorporating into your day.
Not only does it officially make you one of us, it’s also one of those “you might be a voice actor if…” moments. You might be at the very beginning of your career, or you might not even realize yet that this habit is something that could spark real abilities in this business.
And honestly, it reminds me of one of my favorite memes—because who doesn’t love Kermit?
Kermit arms. Yay.
Thanks so much for watching, guys. As always, if you want to learn more about this wacky business called voice acting and all the different things you can do within it, check out my website and take a look at the YouTube channel. There are plenty more videos you can learn from.
Thanks for watching.
